Signs of Marijuana Use

It is important to be aware of the signs of marijuana use, especially if you suspect that a loved one or someone close to you is having marijuana abuse problems. There are a multitude of different signs to look for, but some of the most common signs of marijuana use are:

  • If the person makes sure to have eye drops at the ready, this could be one of the tell tale signs of marijuana use; because red eyes is the most common initial side effects that is related to the drug, they could be using these drops to conceal their marijuana use.
  • An obvious sign of marijuana use is finding related drug paraphernalia, such as rolling papers, pipes, a bong, or roach clips. Finding these items is pretty good indication that marijuana use is currently an issue with your loved one.
  • A common sign of marijuana use in teens is when they develop an interest in sweet smelling incense as they attempt to cover up the smell of marijuana smoke.
  • Mouth wash, air fresheners etc. Like incense, if your teen suddenly develops a concern with scent masking agents, such as mouthwash, air fresheners, scented candles or air diffusers, this could be a sign of marijuana use.
  • Having small burns on the thumb and forefinger is one of the telltale signs of marijuana use, as this type of an injury is often caused by smoking a joint down to the very end; there are not many other activities that could cause this type of burn injury.
  • One of the common signs of marijuana use in relation to teens is exhibiting marijuana stickers or posters; the code 420 always refers to marijuana smoking, and can often be found on the school bags and lockers of teens who use the drug.
  • A sudden need for more money without much to show for it, can be one of the most common signs of marijuana use, as using this drug can be quite expensive.
  • One of the most common signs of marijuana use, is when a formerly involved loved one begins to isolate themselves from the family. If a loved one has an unusual need for isolation, this could be a sign that they are in the throes of a marijuana addiction.
  • One of the most common signs of marijuana use in relation to teens is a sudden drop in academic performance.
  • Appearing stoned, is one of the obvious signs of marijuana use in teens, but a lot of parents tend to explain away various odd behaviors; ultimately, if your teen comes in the door at night appearing confused, slow and lethargic, they could be high on marijuana.
  • When a formerly driven person no longer appears to be motivated to accomplish any worthwhile goals, this can be one of the signs of marijuana use, or an indication that your loved one may have another type of substance abuse problem.
